Chassis number: SALLDHMF7KA929182

Vehicle spec:
This vehicle was the oldest Land Rover in service with Mountain Rescue England and Wales when it was retired from the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team, based at Okehampton, in late 2025.
It was delivered new in 1993 to Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team in the Lake District and was immediately christened ‘Ada’ to celebrate local benefactor Ada Hillard, who had generously donated the money to buy it.
The Defender served in the Lakes for 16 years before transferring south to join the North Dartmoor team and was finally retired after 32 years’ service with just 42,000 miles on the clock. Ada retired in grand style with a special event on Dartmoor on 7 December 2025, when she led a convoy of North Dartmoor’s other Land Rovers to the summit of Yes Tor, which at 2,031 feet (619 metres) is the second-highest point on Dartmoor, where she handed over her callsign ‘Dart 51’ to her successor, a younger 2013 model 110.
North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team announced its intention to sell Ada online, but following an approach from us, the team’s board of trustees agreed that Ada should be preserved for the benefit of future generations, and she arrived at Dunsfold in early 2026.
