Chassis number: SALLHAMM3MA655905

Registration number: M718 AFM

Engine type: 3.9 V8 Petrol

Gearbox type: 4 Speed Auto

Vehicle spec:
This vehicle was commissioned from S MacNeillie & Sons Ltd of Walsall by Cheshire Constabulary as an Armed Response vehicle. With discreet blue lights behind the grille and a full siren and PA system, it was used on VIP escort duties and for high-risk operations.

It is fitted with a fire suppression system as well as ballistic glazing and panels, all fitted very discreetly so the vehicle would not stand out or attract attention. It’s gross vehicle weight is 3400kg compared with around 2500 for a standard classic Range Rover.

Cheshire Constabulary acquired its first Range Rovers in 1971 and M718 AFM was the last operational classic Range Rover on Cheshire’s fleet. Upon retirement it was due to be scrapped to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands, but a serving police officer campaigned for it to be preserved and he became its custodian together with Cheshire’s L322 Range Rover DK54 HSU.

Both vehicles are now part of the Dunsfold Collection.
