1983 Land Rover Ninety Final Engineering Prototype Number Two
Chassis number: SALLDVAH7AA100002
Registration number: CWK 40Y
Engine type: 2.25 ohv Petrol
Gearbox type: 5 Speed
Vehicle spec:
This is the second of the eleven FEP Ninety vehicles and was known within the company as 90-2. It was created by rebuilding CWK 46Y, an existing 110, by shortening its chassis to 92.9-inches. It was completed in May 1983 and given a new chassis number and re-registered CWK 40Y.
Axles are Range Rover components but with drum brakes fitted. The roof is a cut-down 110 part, and extension panels are visible in the body just behind the doors.
FEP 90-1 is also in the Collection and is unique in having a wheelbase of 90-inches.
The remaining nine FEP Ninetys were rebuilt from 110s in the same way as 90-2 and with the 92.9-inch wheelbase. They were also given new chassis numbers and were added to the test fleet as they were built, with the last ones joining the programme in September 1983. Testing was completed in May 1984.
The short wheelbase Land Rover Ninety model was introduced in 1984 with the 92.9-inch wheelbase, but that dimension obviously didn’t inspire the marketing department and the model was known as the ‘Ninety’.
