Vehicle spec:

This vehicle was built under licence in Spain by Land Rover Santana SA of Madrid, which had factories in Linares and Manzanares. Earlier vehicles were built using CKD kits shipped out from Solihull, but by the late 1960s Santana vehicles were locally built. Around two-thirds of production was for export, primarily to Central and South American countries and the Middle East.

Santana’s contract with Land Rover allowed it to modify and develop Land Rover designs and as a result by the time this Series III vehicle was built there were major differences compared with vehicles being built at Solihull.

It seems this vehicle was allocated to the 91st Artillery Regiment in Ibiza in the Balearic Islands. After its military career it was purchased by a French collector and driven home. A UK enthusiast acquired it from him and carried out a limited amount of restoration work. It was acquired by the Dunsfold Collection in 2026 and still retains its military paint and unit markings.

The engine is basically a UK 4-cylinder unit with additional cylinders added each end and a gear driven inline injector pump. The body has little in common with UK-build vehicles, and the Santana Militar is a very rare vehicle in the UK.
