Another brilliant Open Day...
Friday 26th April 2024
The sun was shining, it wasn't raining, and over 250 visitors came to see the Collection. The furthest-travelled came from the USA and Australia, and everyone seemed to have an enjoyable day.
VIP visitors included Tim Slessor of 'First Overland' fame, and Barry Doughty and Geoff Renner, who were members of the 1975 Joint Services West-East Sahara Expedition, which was the first expedition to cross the Sahara from the Atlantic coast to the Red Sea through the Mauretania-Mali Empty Quarter.
Barry was the driver of ‘Tail-End Charlie’ which was one of the four 101 Forward Control vehicles used for the expedition, which now resides in the Collection. It was a very great pleasure to reunite them both with the 101.
Our thanks to our trusty band of volunteers for their help in making the day such a success.
