Land Rover Legends Show announces National Awards contenders

Hundreds of Land Rovers are set to gather at Bicester Heritage just one week from now, as the historic venue plays host to the Land Rover Legends show, and to the first National Awards for Land Rover vehicles.
As the brand celebrates its 70th year, Land Rover Legends is a new format Land Rover show, proudly showcasing the icon through the decades for connoisseurs, collectors, preservationists, restorers and enthusiasts alike to enjoy and celebrate.
A central part of the show will be a ‘live’ element inside the Bicester Heritage aircraft hangar, where the floor is handed over to outstanding vehicle parades and interviews with the people who have both made history and who have undertaken spectacular adventures in Land Rovers. The people, the cars and the stories will be presented in the live arena along with a Star Cars feature hosted by television presenter and classic car enthusiast, Mark Evans.
The focal-point of Land Rover Legends will be the inaugural National Awards, supported by leading classic car insurer Footman James, who will present the Land Rover Legends Award for the vehicle and story that depicts the true essence of the iconic marque.
In addition, Farer, Britain’s most intrepid watch brand, will present the National Award for the Most Original Vehicle – recognising authenticity, character and the patina of age in an unrestored state.
And of course The Dunsfold Collection is proud to be a supporter of the new event and will be displaying a number of vehicles inside the main hangar.
The remarkable awards shortlist is categorised as follows:
The Footman James Land Rover Legends Award
This award will be presented to the vehicle with the winning story that depicts the true essence of the iconic marque, chosen by a public vote.
The following categories will have their winners selected by an expert panel of Land Rover Legends judges.
Most Original Vehicle, in Association with Farer
Nominations in this category are made up of a wonderful and hard-working 1961 Series II 109-inch pick up, a 1964 Series II 88-inch station wagon, a 1991 Discovery 1 with every possible period optional extra and just 41,000 miles, a 1998 Defender 50th Anniversary V8, and a very early production Freelander 1 from the vehicle’s launch year of 1998.
‘Best Restored Vehicle’
Nominations in this category are made up of the famous ‘Oxford’ First Overland 1955 Series I station wagon, a 1956 Rover company press demonstrator Series I 107-inch station wagon, a 1959 Series II 88-inch in its original regulation Poppy Red, a 1960 Series II that has been the subject of a recent restoration, a 1976 101-inch MoD ‘Forward Control’, and a one-of-25 1994 Range Rover Classic LSE Autobiography.
‘Best Bespoke Vehicle’
Vehicles in this category include a very unusual 1954 Series I ‘Grip Karosse’ bodied under license in Sweden by conversion specialist Gripkarosserier AB, a custom-built 1993 Defender 90, a Jaguar-engined 4.2-litre V8 ‘supercharged’ Discovery 1 from 1994, and a one-off Holland & Holland by Overfinch Range Rover from 2006.
‘Best Club Display’
Awarded to the Club that comes to Land Rover Legends not only in the greatest numbers, but which also puts on the best show line-up.
